What a year it's been. I started my Masters of Social Work program at Bridgewater State University in September, 2022, and I have learned so much about myself in the process. I feel utterly privileged and grateful for the opportunity. I also feel excited for the future, for an internship with Middleton Jail, and what is to come. I can’t reiterate enough how incredibly transformative this year has been in my life. I’ve made new friends, managed to keep my old ones, learned more than I can even comprehend, and made an abundance of meaningful connections. While it was difficult at times, I know things may get harder, and I have the confidence that I will persevere.
The faculty has been truly amazing and incredibly supportive. They are knowledgeable and inspiring and radiate passion for the social work field. I’ve answered questions from young undergraduates hoping to go to graduate school one day and I was honored to be in a position to help guide them. My graduate assistantship as an academic coach has allowed me to form relationships with fellow aspiring counselors, as well as students, professors, and other University staff. I feel a deep connection to Bridgewater State University, and am incredibly grateful for how I’ve been welcomed there. I hope to radiate that inclusivity and pass it on to incoming folks. Go Bears!
To sum up my experience I have this piece of advice: If you’re thinking about making a change that will alter your life, no matter how scary, take the leap. It’ll be worth it.
